Today, Friday, sadly we had to leave Broken Hill and friends, Kelvin and Vennetia. They have given us so much of their time and we have really appreciated that more than words can express.
After we left our friends, we went to the Visitors Centre to not only empty the toilet cassette but also to have our caffeine fix for the day. While I was doing the cassette, Prue came across Rosemary from Gunnedah that we had come across earlier in the week. She was married to Col who died several years ago and I had known since about 1963. Unfortunately, she had given a mobile phone number that was one digit out so we were unable to contact her to get together earlier. Anyway, we had a good chat before she departed on a final tour of Broken Hill.
As we departed Broken Hill, Vennetia caught up with us again just before we visited the Shopping Centre.
Then we really did get on the way.
Our lunch stop was at Olary in the little Pub. We had the nicest Chicken and Bacon burger with chips that we have had on this trip. Not that we have burgers very often. We met the owner and her partner along with one of the characters that end up in hotels around this country. He was quite a jovial fellow and had travelled extensively around the country so was good for bits of information.
After lunch we enjoyed the changing scenery and as we became closer to Peterborough, the farm land became green. It is not fantastic but at least there is a chance they may get some crop this year. The sheep look well and so do the cattle.
Tonight, we are in Peterborough at the Caravan Park It is a nice tidy town with a lot of railway history. At one time there were three different rail gauges coming into the town. That has changed and now the town does not rely on rail for its income but more on tourists and the farming community.
